If you thought the only thing you can do in the Himalayas is climb a mountain, then think again.

On this adventure to the Indian Himalayan foothills, you’ll not only be trekking, but rafting, canyoning, zip lining and safariing too. When we say “adventure”, we really mean it, and that’s exactly what you’ll get on this incredible trip to India. And of course, you’ll get the chance to try traditional Indian curry.

Dramatic topography, lush valleys, stunning waterfalls, traditional villages and awesome wildlife await you on this adventure of a lifetime in India. Rickshaw rides, ancient architecture and maybe even the Bengal tiger too.
And you’ll do it all with the rugged peaks of the mighty Himalayas in sight, with the Ganges flowing by. If your soul needs feeding, you’ll find the perfect recipe in the Indian Himalayas.

India Himalayan Adventure Itinerary

  • Day 1: DEPART UK

    DEPART UK

  • Day 2: ARRIVE IN DELHI

ARRIVE IN DELHI Arrive in Delhi. You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Depending on your international flight timing, spend the day relaxing/shopping and exploring Delhi city.

  • Day 3: DELHI – HARIDWAR – CAMP

DELHI – HARIDWAR – CAMP Early this morning we'll take the train to Haridwar (the nearest railhead to our camp). On arrival at Haridwar, you will be driven to our camp, via a scenic drive as you cross the town of Rishikesh. Following a sumptuous lunch, we will take a short hike to a typical hill village accompanied by our resident naturalist. During the walk, the naturalist will explain the way of life in a village and introduce you to the flora and fauna found in the foothills of the Himalayas. Return to camp in the evening. Dinner and overnight in camp.

  • Day 4: AT THE CAMP

AT THE CAMP Post breakfast, we'll drive for a short distance to the put-in point for today’s rafting session. After a thorough safety briefing, we'll gear up with helmets, life jackets, and paddles to commence our rafting on the Ganges. This is a gentle stretch to learn raft orienteering techniques. Conclude paddling at Rishikesh and drive back to camp for a hot lunch. After lunch, we drive down to Rishikesh and commence our walking tour of the fascinating town. After crossing Laxman Jhulla, a suspended bridge across the Ganges, we walk past several temples, ashrams, the local bazaar, and yoga centres to Ram Jhulla (another suspended bridge). Both bridges are named after the two brothers Ram and Laxman from the Hindu Epic “Ramayana”. At Ram Jhoola we walk down to the ghat for an evening “Aarti” (prayer ceremony). After the “Aarti” we walk across the Ram Jhoola to board our waiting vehicle and drive back to the camp. Dinner and overnight in camp.

  • Day 5: FULL DAY HIKING

FULL DAY HIKING Post breakfast, we leave for the trek with a picnic lunch. The first half of the trek is an uphill climb. After about 30 minutes of hiking we take a short detour to a nearby waterfall, to see some stalactite formations. This is a good spot for photographs. After a short break at the waterfall, we'll get back to the trail and continue our gradual ascent. The trail passes through a typical hill village called Patna and continues further up past the two local primary schools en route to another village called Simal Khet – the highest point of our trek. Picnic lunch at a vantage point, offers a panoramic view of the valley and the Ganges. Return to camp. Time at leisure or to spend time on the beach by the Ganges. Dinner and overnight in camp.

  • Day 6: ZIPLINE; WILDLIFE SAFARI

ZIPLINE; WILDLIFE SAFARI Early morning yoga session. Post-breakfast, we have an exciting and adventurous zip line activity 400 metres across the Ganges River and 65 metres above the river from 'Camp Panther' to 'Leopard Heights', our camp located on the hill opposite Shivpuri village. Early lunch and drive to Rajaji National Park for a wildlife safari. Rajaji National Park is distinct for its pristine scenic beauty and its rich biodiversity. This area is the north-western limit of the Asian elephant. Apart from elephants, the park is home to over 40 species of mammals including tigers, leopards, deer, and ghurals, and has over 315 species of birds. Return to camp for dinner.

  • Day 7: DEVPRAYAG RAFTING

DEVPRAYAG RAFTING After an early breakfast, we'll leave for Devprayag (120 minutes drive, 55 kilometres) for a full day of rafting on the Ganges. Devprayag is at the confluence of two very sacred rivers - the Bhagirathi and the Alaknanda - that merge to form the holy Ganges river. You will be introduced to river guiding and get a chance to steer the boat. The rafting stretch today should take approximately 4 hours. After the rafting session, we'll board a waiting bus and drive back to the camp; a journey of around 45 minutes. Dinner and overnight in camp.

  • Day 8: JIM CORBETT NATIONAL PARK

JIM CORBETT NATIONAL PARK After an early breakfast, we'll drive for 5 hours (165 kilometres), through typical Indian towns and past agricultural fields, to Jim Corbett National Park. We will reach your Corbett Resort in time for lunch. Established as Hailey National Park in 1936, Jim Corbett National Park is the oldest national park in India. The park was the first to come under the Project Tiger initiative, which was started to protect the endangered Bengal tiger. It has now become one of the most popular tourist attractions for wildlife and nature lovers across the world. In the afternoon we will take a nature walk accompanied by a naturalist into a Sal forest surrounding the resort. This offers an excellent introduction to the flora and fauna of the area. Return to the resort for dinner.

  • Day 9: JIM CORBETT NATIONAL PARK

JIM CORBETT NATIONAL PARK Early morning, we depart for a wildlife safari into the Bijrani range hoping for a glimpse of the elusive tiger. Return to the resort for breakfast. Post lunch, we'll head out on our second wildlife safari of the day in the Jhirna range. We'll be back in time for an early dinner.

  • Day 10: JIM CORBETT NATIONAL PARK - DELHI

JIM CORBETT NATIONAL PARK - DELHI Today we take a train back to Delhi. The train will depart from the station at 9:55 am and will take approximately 5.5 hours. Upon return, we'll be driven to the hotel, where you will have plenty of time to rest, relax, and explore the capital city.

  • Day 11: TOUR OF DELHI

TOUR OF DELHI The division between Old and New Delhi is the division between the capitals of the Mughals and the British. It also marks the division in lifestyles. Old Delhi or “The Walled City” is all tradition whereas New Delhi is a city trying to live up to the best of 21st-century standards. The tour of Old Delhi includes a visit to the magnificent Red Fort (closed on Mondays) which overlooks the River Yamuna. This is followed by a rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk, the centuries-old marketplace in Old Delhi. Post lunch we drive through Lutyen’s Delhi, which houses the Parliament House, the Presidential Estate, and the India Gate. This part of Delhi was designed by the English architect Edwin Lutyens when India was part of the British Empire. After a brief stop here to take photographs, drive on to Humayun’s tomb, an outstanding monument in the Indo-Persian style that is said to have inspired Emperor Shah Jahan to make the world-famous Taj Mahal. Return to the hotel in the evening to freshen up before a farewell dinner.
