How Much Does It Cost To Visit Easter Island?

Easter Island, also known as Rapa Nui, is a remote island off the coast of Chile and Peru in the South Pacific Ocean.

With its iconic moai statues, volcanic landscapes, and rich Polynesian culture, it’s almost the epitome of a bucket list destination.

But travelling to such a remote destination can bring with it some costs… and it’s only natural to wonder if your dream trip is really attainable…

Well, that’s precisely what we’re here to look at!

How Much Do Flights to Easter Island Cost?

Getting to Easter Island requires a bit of effort, as there are no direct flights from most countries. Have no fear, though – nothing worth doing was ever easy, right?

And in all honesty, it’s not that complicated.

From the UK, you’ll need to first fly to Santiago, Chile, which can cost anywhere from £600 to £1,200 for a round-trip ticket, depending on the airline, dates, and any layovers.

Once in Santiago, you’ll need to take a separate flight to Easter Island, which typically costs around £400 to £600 round-trip with LATAM, the only airline operating this route.

If you’re flying in the high season, January to March, this tends to be busier and more popular as the weather conditions are perfect to get all the sightseeing you want done.

Of course, this can mean higher costs on flights… but if you’re looking for a package where everything’s included and you can pay in monthly instalments, then you might just want to check out our Chile and Easter Island trip here.

How Much is Accommodation on Easter Island?

As with most places, accommodation options on Easter Island range from budget guesthouses to luxurious resorts.

Depending on what you’re looking for, you can pay as little as £50 per night for basic accommodation to £300 per night for upper mid-range hotels and resorts.

Of course, it’s a sliding scale and most places will tend to fall somewhere in the middle of those two figures, so it’s worth budgeting somewhere between £100 and £200 per night on average.

Most lodgings are located in Hanga Roa, which is Easter Island’s only town, which is good news when it comes to transport (which we’ll get onto shortly!).

If you’d rather not think too much about where to stay and where’s best, then we’ve got some news – we can sort that.

We’ve run our Chile and Easter Island trips enough times to know exactly where we trust to deliver, meaning you get a great night’s sleep ready for the next day of sightseeing. Check out our Chile and Easter Island trip itinerary here.

How Much Does It Cost To Travel Around Easter Island?

One of the things we’re often asked about our trips is how much it costs to get around when you’re there – and Easter Island is no different.

The perception many people might have is that there’s not a whole lot to travel around… and they’re not far wrong.

It’s a pretty small island, which means that getting around is mostly via hiring cars, on foot, and tour buses. There’s no public transport since there’s only one town and tourism is the main industry, so it’s pretty simple to stay connected with your tour group!

You can find out more things to do around Easter Island in our ‘Top 10 Things To Do On Easter Island’ blog here.

If you’re planning on renting a car, you’re looking at around £30 per day, although given that the island is only 63 square miles, we don’t imagine you’d be doing a whole lot of driving.

Guided tours are a great way to see the island, ranging from £50 to £150 per person… or you could just join us on our Chile and Easter Island trip, where all your local guides and accommodation are included anyway!

Is Food Expensive On Easter Island?

Given that Easter Island is about as remote it gets in terms of its location (it’s in the middle of the ocean, after all), food costs can be a little on the pricey side.

Then again, at most restaurants you can expect a main dish to range from £10 to £25, which isn’t too dissimilar to prices in the UK.

Costs will range depending on where you’re eating but as ever, you can always be more frugal or more frivolous depending on what your budget is and what you’re looking for.

Either way, we know all the best spots to grab a quick bite or sit down and enjoy a relaxing meal, and we’ll be taking our next group there on our Chile and Easter Island trip.

How Much Does It Cost To Visit Chile?

If you’re planning to visit Easter Island, you’ll likely want to explore mainland Chile as well.

Prices in Chile can vary depending on how you travel, when you’re going, and where you’ll be stopping – it’s a big country, after all.

In Santiago, you can find budget accommodation for roughly £20 to £50 per night, while mid-range hotels can cost £80 to £150 per night. Food costs anywhere from £5 to £25, though most local eateries will be on the lower side of that.
