Will I See The Big Five On Safari?
When you’re heading off an African Safari, there’s probably one question you want an answer to more than anything:
Will I see the Big Five on Safari?
The big five being lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, and buffalo.
The answer, honestly, is it depends.
There are no guarantees of anything in life and other than guaranteeing a fantastic trip and an adventure that you’ll never forget, especially if you head off on The Bucket Lists’ Tanzania Safari trip, which you can find out more about here.
The Big Five – The Challenges of Spotting Them…
Seeing the big five in person is one of those things that is on SO many bucket lists – and rightly so.
It’s one of the most spectacular sights in the world to set your eyes on rhinos, leopards, elephants, leopards, and buffalo in the wild – never mind in one of the most iconic locations in the world.
Tanzania is home to some of the world’s most awe-inspiring animals, as well as breathtaking scenery, rugged landscape, and an environment like no other.
As we say, though, there’s no guarantee that you’ll see the big five and, on any trip, you should treat it as a challenge rather than a given – if it doesn’t happen, you’ll still have the adventure of a lifetime.

Our experienced local guides will do their utmost to ensure that you get a glimpse of the big five whenever we can. It’s why the itinerary on our Best Tanzania Safari trip is designed the way it is, to maximise your chances of seeing the big five whilst having the best possible experience.
Timing Is Everything On Safari
Right place, right time.
There’s a lot to be said for being in the right place at the right time when it comes to being on safari.
While there are no guarantees, we can maximise our chances by offering our trips during the dry season, giving you multiple opportunities to see the big five up close (well, not too close…) and make sure you have an unforgettable trip.
Animals are unpredictable at the best of times, but our local expert guides and rangers have been there, done that, and got the t-shirt when it comes to safaris and spotting the big five.
You really couldn’t be in better hands, and you won’t have a better chance of seeing the big five!
Conservation is a big part of the experience too, especially with the number of animals in the wild dwindling over the years – you’ll witness first-hand the work that’s being done to preserve the wild, allowing animals to maintain their habitat.
The great thing about the dry season is that there tends to be occasions where animals congregate around water sources as they head for a drink.
And because it’s the dry season, they tend to be few and far between, which means we can narrow down the locations that’ll be best to spot them!
The Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater, which we’ll visit on our Tanzania Safari trip, are great places to spot the big five as they’re well known for their high concentrations of lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalo.
Embrace The Adventure In Tanzania
Part of the adventure on any Safari trip is embracing the adventure.
That means finding the big five is an adventure in itself – the best way to think of it is to start out hopeful but not expectant.
That way, you get to enjoy the thrill of the unexpected if you do spot any of the big five (or all of them if you’re lucky!).
A Tanzanian Safari is about so much more than just the big five. It’s about the stunning landscape, migrating birds, cultural heritage, and the camaraderie of heading there on a small group trip!
If you’re planning on heading off on an African Safari and want an experience like no other, our Best Tanzanian Safari might just be the trip for you.
